Hair Therapy Sundays

Therapy is now in session....

To Extend or not to Extend that is the question?

Have you always wondered what you would look like with hair Extensions?

What if you could finally have that Victoria Secret hair and walk around bouncing it from side to side??

Well before you run to your local salon and ask for a full head of glorious extensions lets talk shop..shall we.

There are as many hair extension companies as there are fast food franchises so let's see what works best for you.

When choosing extensions always go to a certified stylist who can answer all your questions...what type of hair you have will play a huge part in what type of extensions work best for you. Not all hair is created equal so you should be aware that this is all about individual tailoring.

Many stylist will chose one method over another and this is all about experience and personal preference.

The methods include(but are not limited to)weaving in tracks, gluing, Keratin bonding and copper tubing. They all have their benefits and depending on the stylist they can be amazing or terrifying!

Here is an example of hair being too short &thecopper tubing too light.

My personal preference is the copper tubing method due to the fact that it allows the hair to grow without damaging it. I use Pure extensions.

PURE™ Extensions has revolutionized the hair extension industry with its eco-friendly cold bond, non-damaging system.

Developed by stylists for stylists, their extensions are made of 100% REMY hair and last up to 3x longer than traditional hair extension systems. Also, a full head of hair only takes about two hours to apply, compared to the 4-6 hour application process for traditional extensions.

There are no harsh chemical applications with PURE™ Extensions hair. This company is considered the number one source of eco-friendly hair extensions in the beauty salon industry.

PURE’s cold bond application is completely free of heat, waxes and glue, keeping you and environment happy and healthy=)

There is so much more to say about this topic and I will keep you all up to date and informed please email us with any questions you need addressed and we will do our best to answer them.

I'll have the morning scramble, with a side of anxiety.

Friday morning, 7:00 AM. The "Snooze" button has been hit five too many times and by default, you're running late. The weekend still seems light years away and all you want to do is curl into a ball and whimper quietly until the clock ticks to 5:00 PM.

Instead, you scramble your groggy body in a hopeless attempt to make up for lost time. You're drying your hair, brewing coffee, and applying mascara simultaneously. You look at the clock...7:34 AM....you were supposed to leave four minutes ago and you still have a lot of work to do in the "face department". All of your products are scattered across the counter and there's absolutely no time for lollygagging. Panicked, you look at yourself in the mirror. It's down to the wire and you'll do what it takes to get yourself out that door in three seconds without scaring the neighbs.

*With the following tips from your fellow AM scrambler, you can start your day sunny side up. I have personally tried all of these secrets in certain moments of morning madness and they have been a complete success.

1. Take a deeeeeep breath and stretch, it's important to warm up and get the muscles working before you begin your morning obstacle course.

2. Combine a drop of your foundation with your moisturizer, blend together and apply with fingers to moisturize AND even out your skin tone.

3. Knock out lip and cheek color with one product---lip stick! A rosy tone tends to complement most skin colors and enhance your natural glow. After applying to your lips for its intended purpose, dab a little on your finger tips and blend in a circular motion on the apples of your cheeks.

4. Find yourself caught up with the clock? Dot the inner corners of your eyes with a white or cream shimmer to give your eyes a more "awake" appearance.

Ta daaaaaaah! There you have it....a model look in under a minute!

Wait a second!

On your way to work, you're checking your purty self out in the rear view mirror. *SCREEEEEECH* your car comes to an abrupt halt. You forgot the brows!!!!!! AAAAAH!

Don't freak out. Here's the trick...

As you shuffle through your purse in desperation to find SOMETHING...ANYTHING to fill in those eyebrows. You reach out of your bag and your hand tightly grips a BIC pen. Hand shaking, you ask yourself..."Do I dare?!?!" There's no time to consider the tragic possibility of giving yourself Eddie Munster brows and you do it.

Very lightly with the pen at an almost sideways angle you create incredibly fine strokes inside the brow to fill in the gaps. Surprisingly, your look is complete and you tell ABSOLUTELY NO ONE you took a ball point to your face this morning. Just make sure the pen is not blue. This trick works for most brown to black brows. For lighter brows...keep a #2 pencil handy. :)

Tailored Tuesdays - Perfect Products

In this day and age time is everything - we're in a constant state of GO, GO, GO! The faster you can get out that door the better, so here's two products I'm recommending for all you guys out there that will save you a couple extra minutes and make your life a little easier - or at the very least it'll simplify your morning routine.

This is my personal favorite when it comes to men's hair - it's a wax based product so you'll get a nice, firm hold out of it while still having the added bonus of flexibility. The other advantage? You get the fresh, clean scent that is all tea tree (a nice change from the weirdo chocolate axe mascot).

Paul Mitchell Re-works:

Re-works is a great texture cream that's easy to apply and allows for some quick restyling throughout the day, should the occasion call for it. The light cream base of this product contains wheat-derived conditioners that will give you flexible texture as well as a little added protection from daily wear and tear. If you're looking for a soft finish, apply to damp hair - if you want a slightly firmer hold with some added texture then work it in when the hair is dry.

Both of these products can be found at any salon that carries the
Paul Mitchell line.

Makeup Monday...Best Brushes!!

We spend so much time searching for the best lipstick shade, the right foundation consistency, the rosiest rouge for our cheeks....yet so many of us overlook what should obviously be the most important find...the brush! Brushes are essential in having a polished finished look. The right brush can make or break any product. Without the perfect tool, you cannot achieve the perfect face :) EcoTools are my new obsession.

The bristles are incredibly soft. The brushes are full and firm. The quality of this product is undeniably amazing. One of my biggest pet peeves in makeup application is when tiny black brush bristles stick to the faces of my clients. Nothing gets under my skin like seeing a perfectly polished face freckled in sticky brush hairs!! Thanks to these brilliant brushes I may never have to pick bristles off my clients faces again! I have yet to see a single bristle fall from any of my EcoTools, which in my experience is nearly unheard of.

They are not only fantastic tools for flawless makeup application, but they are also environmentally friendly! And while making the planet smile they also bring a great big grin to the wallet....the prices are so affordable! These brushes are found on line and sold at most drug stores. Target is also a big promoter of the line. If you are anything like me, I tend to be a little snobby about where I buy my tools. In my experience it seems brushes are one of the things I must splurge on in order to get the most for my money. I have never been a huge fan of drugstore brand applicators but EcoTools have turned my skepticism into optimum optimism. These brushes should be a must for everyone's makeup bag. Try them once and I'm confident you will become a loyal user. My only wish is that they offered more brushes. Currently they have limited options. Hopefully as they become more widely distributed their available products will only increase.

So start the season out right ladies and spread the word. The days of overpriced brushes with shedding bristles may be over for good. EcoTools will change the way you apply your products forever.

More on Monday!!

Hair Therapy Sundays

Therapy now in session....

We all know that we need to use the right man/woman for the right job..yes??? Then why are you still using hair spray to flat iron or style your hair?? In the past we were told it would hold the curl or leave the hair straighter(while cooking it in place)...but Hair spray is a finishing tool not a styling tool...now let's use the right product for the right job, shall we??

The reason I deemed Sundays "Hair Therapy Days" is because most people will take this day to do treatments , deep condition or style their hair. So let's get off on the right foot and talk about products that not only heal , protect and enhance the hair--they are also good for our skin and the environment.

As a Kevin.Murphy. educator I have been privileged to work with a company that truly cares about hair -- it's integrity and longevity. These products were produced to not only to heal the hair they actually work...amazingly!!

Let's start with my favorite product in this line:

ANTI.GRAVITY
An oil free volumiser and texturiser. For bigger, thicker hair, apply to wet hair and dry in. Helps hold your style whether it is curled or blown out. Adds control to fly aways and has certified organic lavender....HOLD -HOLD- HOLD...this product will hold any style you put it in and as you layer it will continue to adapt.

NEXT UP:

HEATED.DEFENCE
Heat protecting volumising spray (for those of you who must flat iron/curl everyday!)
A heat protecting volumising spray that contains Wheat Protein resins for full bodied shine, and KEVIN.MURPHY X-HP complex™ for heat protection....

This product will change the way you do hair!! You can sprays it on wet or dry it will protect the hair up to 428* degrees and make styling a breeze.

In the end after you have put in the right products to style your lovely locks you can use hair spray to your hearts content!! I recommend: Kevin.Murphy. session spay--adds lots of shine, while letting you run you finger through your hair --no more sticky crunchy spray--imagine hold, shine with a natural finish....

I hope you have enjoyed our session,

Metallic Mania

Metallic Mania

The Winter Olympic Games are in full force and it's time to get yourself a gold medal in the art of makeup!

Whether you are playing for gold, silver, or bronze, all three are first in my book. Turn yourself into a metallic marvel this weekend. Allow me to coach you with a few tricks you'll need in order to master a jaw-dropping look.

TIP# 1: Prep Skin:

I recommend Estee Lauder's Re Nutriv Collection. It is a full line of luxurious products to make your skin glimmer and gleam like gold (some of the products even contain elemental gold, which is a natural skin refinisher).

Burnished Bronze Beauty:

Eyes
1. Deposit a neutral brown shade of eye shadow on the lid and work your way up into the crease.
2. A rich bronze shimmer like Bare Escentuals "Pussycat" will enhance your eye color especially blues and greens.
3. Sweep the suggested shade over lid and darken outter corners (in a sideways "V" sort of motion)
4. *Trick* Wet your liner brush and use "Pussycat" as a liner to rim the entire eye. Then go over once more with dry liner to create a more messy- bedroom eye sort of look.
5. Brush a shimmery cream shade in the inner corners of the eye and along the brow bone to create definition.
6. Coat lashes with lengthening mascara in black/brown

Cheeks
1. Use a warm bronze shade for contouring cheeks
2. I recommend a shimmer peach to highlight the cheek bones. Take an angled blush brush and sweep the highlight at a 45 degree angle just under the eye.

Lips
1. For a more natural look I suggest wearing a nude gloss
2. If you'd like to jazz it up a little more for night time. Try lining your lips with a chocolate shade like Makeup Forever's "Chocolate Brown" Aqua Lip Waterproof Liner blend liner into middle of lip to tame the color and soften the line
3. Fill in lips with a bronze gloss

Sterling Silver Stunner:

Eyes
1. This look is close to a classic smokey eye. Cover the lid with a deep gray up into the crease and bottom lid just under the lash line
2. Sweep a metallic silver over entire lid and dot the inner corners to highlight and sharpen the look.
3. Blend both shades up into the crease.
4. Take an angled brush and use a dark grey to contour the outer corners of the eye.
5. Use a charcoal liner to line the eye.
6. Create a more defined and dramatic look by lining the inside of the eye, which is called the "waterline"
6. Coat lashes with mascara

Cheeks
1. For a more platinum look use a cream highlighter like Nars "Orgasm Illuminator"
2. *Trick* Contour just above cheek bone by swiping a line with a little product on your finger tracing the natural shape of your cheek. Then, feather up with the pad of your index finger for a natural and finished effect.
3. *Trick* Illuminator is a versatile product that you can mix with other products. Try a dollop with your foundation shade to provide a lustrous finish. Or, If you'd like a little more color on your cheeks blend a little loose mineral blush in with the illuminator to enhance your natural glow.

Lips
1. Since the eye is so significant in this particular look, you don't want the lips to compete...unless of course you're going for "tart"
2. Use a nude lip that is fairly close to your skin tone to allow focus on all your hard work in the eye department.
3. Try a matte lip for a more velvety appearance.

Gilded Gold Goddess:

Eyes
1. Gold works wonderfully with darker skin tones. It accentuates the tone of the skin creating an opulent and radiant impression.
2. In reference to the above example...load your brush with a deep golden shadow and work your way up starting at the lash line up toward the brow.
3. Highlight the brow bone with a lighter gold.
4. Thinly, line the top lash line with a deep brown liquid liner.
(if you're not confident with liquid liner, use a pencil and work in between the top lashes and smudge up with a Q-tip)
5. Line the lower lashes with the deep golden tone you used on the top lid. in the outer bottom corners use a little of the liner you used on top for more definition.
6. Apply a light coat of thickening mascara

Cheeks
1. Define the cheek bones with a rich bronzer. This will enhance the warmth of the skin tone as well as the shades of gold you applied on your eyes.
2. Dust the apples of your cheeks with a rose champagne color to create a flawless complexion

Lips
1. In reference to the look above, you can match the lip to the eye which will transform your look into a golden goddess
2. *Trick* make sure your lips are quenched and conditioned with your favorite balm. Next, apply the same color you used on your lids on your lips. The stickiness from your lipbalm will attract the color creating an amazing golden hue over your natural lip tone.

Voila!

Well-tressed Wednesdays Fall Fashion Runway Rundown

yup...say that title three times fast....

Hello all, Nicoletta here with your Runway Rundown...

Though New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 began with the sad news of Alexander McQueens passing, the fashion world continued on with its last round at Bryant Park. I would love to be your fashion blogger but my eye immediately zooms to if it works as a whole and then from hair to make-up and then the clothing and why it works. So for that reason, I will be sure to find you guys a fashion corespondant but here are my observations on New York Fashion Week Fall 2010.

What I do know is that the colors of the coming season after New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 prove to be grey in varying shades and tones with layering of neutrals. The layers of tones in the clothing mirrored the levels of textures within the hair and depth of shadow and color within the makeup artistry. This allots for even the simplest details within the hair and make-up styles to shine...

Though truthfully this time around it seems to be apparent that simplicity and a back to basics feel is key....

Rebecca Taylor Fall 2010; Photo: imaxtree.com

Every look on the runway seemed to be a hieghtened recreation of styles women can accomplish at home next fall or starting now. It is the start of the effortless beauty, think "French IT Girl", the bed head thats is perfectly colored and cut and the perfect complimenting or even contrasting tube of lipstick is all you need....oh and fantastic clothing. (REBECCA TAYLOR pictured above)

Carolina Herrera Fall 2010; Photo: Getty Images

Juan Carlos Obando Fall 2010; Photo: latimes.com

Hair looks ranged from Urban Traveller Chic (JUAN CARLOS OBANDO directly above) to Old Hollywood Screen Siren (CAROLINA HERRERA shown two images up) leaving something for everyone but with one statement fairly clear...the longer the locks the better, since you can always throw them into a "Fashion Faux Bob". (CARMEN MARC VALVO pictured below)

Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2010; Photo: elle.com

Carlos Miele Fall 2010; Getty Images

As for the make-up, lighter smokey smudged eyes were paired with signature lips. The strong make-up statements were definently made with varying lip colors on all skin tones even the drastically pale (pale skin being another crucial trend) and either completely nude tones (CARLOS MIELE directly above) or darker than dark bright matte hues. (HERVE LEGER pictured below)

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010; Getty Images

But even the most minimalistic beauty looks, such as those seen in Marc Jacobs line up still gave off a sense of the glamour and old world class within each model. (MARC JACOBS, above)

Jill Stuart Fall 2010; Getty Images

Vera Wang Fall 2010; Getty Images

Many beauty aspects drew from Spring/Summer 2010 with the elimintation of the traditional Veronica Lake wave replacing it with a "The Tousled Tress" varying in density (JILL STUART, above - top image) or the less coiffed Bridgette Bardot look (VERA WANG, directly above), the increased popularity of the sky high ballerina bun with a twist of texture (CATHRINE MALANDRINO, directly below) and variation on a classic pony tail. (PAMELLA ROLAND, below)

Cathrine Malandrino Fall 2010; imaxtree.com

Pamella Roland Fall 2010; imaxtree.com

Another obvious trend was the shift of volume, volume is now concentrated on the ends on the hair instead on the root,"Little Tops and Big Bottoms"...whether with buns, pony tails or down textured (curled) looks. (PORTS 1961, pictured below)

Ports 1961 Fall 2010; Getty Images

I am signing out for this Well-Tressed Wednesday and New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 but before I go here are a few products tools and tips to achieve the looks I mentioned...

Little Tops Big Bottoms - Use a smoothing serum like Paul Mitchell Super Skinny , an award winning product (add a dab of gel for course hair like Paul Mitchell Fast Form) through the top of the hair, then enhance volume and ensure hold of textured area with Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray.

The Tousled Tress - Use a working spray like Paul Mitchell Worked Up (another award winning product!!) and a 1 inch barrel curling iron (my suggestion is Paul Mitchell Express Ion Curl 1.0, it has a digital temp gage and lock and cermanic/silicone infused barrel!!) alternately working sections varing in size around barrel leave ends out...brush through and spray into place with Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray.

Fashion Faux Bob - Start with hair at desired texture (straight curly and wavy can be achieves with the Express Ion Style v.1 by Paul Mitchell) and back brush (tease) entire head with a firm hold spray such as Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray. Use a detailing brush and clean the top of the hair. Flip hair under with fingers and pin into place by crossing bobby pins at the nape of the neck spray thoroughly and detail with fingers and Paul Mitchell Pro Tools.

Tailored Tuesdays - Bed Head (not just a brand but a style)

*** Layla will be contributing her grooming knowledge to the Last Looks Studio Blog every Tuesday with...you got it...Tailored Tuesdays. Peace and Love, the Last Looks team. ***

Hey everyone, my name's Layla and I'll be your go to for men's grooming from here on out! Need a quick step-by-step? Need to find that perfect product to piece out that hair or get those curls under control? I'll help you out with that and more. I'll be doing reviews of various editorials some weeks as well as dropping in some how-to's and giving a little advice on how to find the right hairstyle for you.

These days bed head is everywhere, and there's no better example of that than Robert Downey Jr. - here's a quick and easy way to get his tussled look:

1. Find a good dry wax or matte texture cream for this style - it'll give you a flexible hold and won't leave you with flaky residue like gels tend to do - and work about a quarter's size amount in between the palms of your hands.

2. Apply liberally and loosely throughout the hair, slightly smoothing back the sides but not overly so - remember, you want it to look natural, and begin piecing out random strands throughout the top, curling some using the tips of your fingers if you'd like.

3. For some extra texture and a slightly stronger hold, grab a blow dryer and run it against the front of the hair, using your fingers to run through the style and create a shape and direction, finishing off the look.

That's it! It's quick and easy if you're pressed for time and extremely versatile so go nuts and enjoy.

Makeup Monday...Blush Ombre!

Hey Everyone...This past Thursday MAC Cosmetics released their new Spring Colors. And the Blush Ombre Collection is worth every penny!! Azalea Blossom is a perfect pink. Ripe Peach is a warm sunny shade perfect for spring time. And Vintage Grape is great for a night time look. Check them out!! Think you will love them...

More on Monday!

Hair Therapy Sundays

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!

Therapy is now in session:

Okay we all love our families, our partners and our friends but how many of us can say we LOVE our hair??? Let's take a moment today and really think about it....

On "the day of love" I want to say "I am truly grateful for my hair!" Do I wish it was shinier, healthier, frizz free and more manageable??? YES! But none the less I am happy to have it....that being said let's get down to the nitty gritty on how we can achieve shine, health and frizz free manageable hair =) Keratin treatments of course!

I began doing these amazing treatments over a year ago and let me say they have changed my life and the life of many of my clients.

These treatments go by many names and brands ( Brazilian Blowout, Coppola, BKT, etc...)all of which I have trained in and tried but my favorite so far has been Global Keratin.

Since our hair is made of 80% protein (keratin)what these treatments do is put the Keratin that is lost back in the hair -think super uber deep conditioning that lasts up to 3months. The Keratin fills all the empty holes that have been created by color, sun damage & age. Making each strand heavier and loosening the curl. Giving you shine, frizz free , healthy hair--It is for all types of hair-fine,medium and course.

Global uses a higher grade of Keratin(better protein) and can be tailored to your hair needs. Not all hair is created equal so your treatments shouldn't be either! Some may leave your hair limp for weeks,or not do anything at all-(that's why it's important to use the right solution for your hair texture).

Client after client I have had amazing results-people will call me and say"Ahou, I finally love my hair!! I can wear it down, I can cut it short, I can curl it or wear it straight and it never frizzes-I LOVE MY HAIR."

Therapy complete.

V is for Vivacious.

Valentine's Day

You either love it or you hate it...usually depending on your status.

Allow me to help you prep your face & case this weekend. I may not have the most noteworthy relationship advice, but I can assure you that if you follow my skincare and makeup tips you'll look and feel fantastic... Valentine or not.
There are several scenarios that can come in to play this time of year. Match the case below, you feel you identify with best. Follow my beauty guidelines and you should have yourself a recipe for indulgence at this year's celebration of l-l-love.

***

Case #1
The Forbidden Fruit

It’s all about “U”….Unattainable, Unapproachable, Unforgettable. You have a “You can look but you can not touch” strategy and enjoy being on display.

In this case I would recommend you put on a show. You’re single and you love it, why not accentuate all of your best assets? Pump it up and go for the BOLD!

Make a delicious statement with a sultry eye. I prefer a deep brown shadow with a hint of shimmer to make the eyes pop. To get a professional look without a lot of effort try using the eyeshadow trio called “Smashbox.com", by Smashbox.

1. Sweep the dark brown shade over your lid up into the crease. Since this is considered a "smokey eye" it's okay to not be precise.

2. Deposit more color near the lash line and outer corners, smudging your way up to the crease.

3. Line the entire eye with a dark brown pencil like Tarte's EmphasEYES High Def. Eye Pencil in Dark Brown (Tip: dot in between the lashes and smudge with a "Q-Tip" to achieve a fool proof line)

4. Highlight just under your brow bone and in the inner corners of your eye with the lighter shade to give yourself a more polished look.

5. Contour your cheeks with Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer. (Lightly sweep over forehead and collar bone with blush brush while you're at it to add a subtle glow)

6. Highlight your cheekbones with the sheer pink from your Smashbox trio to create flawless highlighted finish.

7. Color your kisser with a rich shade like Makeup Forever’s Plum Burgundy.

Case #2

Single and HATING IT!

It’s that time of year again and you can't help but wonder why Lloyd Dobbler isn't standing outside your house with a BoomBox over his head. You bitterly observe the holiday by doing things you’d never admit to anyone… like eating that entire carton of triple fudge nut chocolate double chip cookie dough ice cream, stalking all of your exes on Facebook, and crying your face off to Steel Magnolias. You’re out of tears, your pizza is on it’s way, the sweats are in the dryer…now what?

It’s time to take those broken wings and P-A-M-P-E-R yourself .

The first step is to de-puff those peepers...

***When the eyes get a puffin'-I really can't emphasize the importance of hydration. Drink lots of water to get yourself back on track.

I also recommend the tea bag remedy... hehe...

- Place each bag over your (CLOSED) eyes for approx. 10 minutes to alleviate puffiness and irritation. The herbs from the tea are also a natural antioxidant which promotes healthy skin (especially around delicate areas like the eye).

Give yourself the ultimate facial Rx with the Black Tea Age Delay Skin Care Set.

This kit has all the essentials to cleanse treat and pamper your skin. Trapped inside this cute little black makeup bag includes a cleanser, moisturizer, eye cream and mask. You'll be feeling FRESH and revived in no time at all.

If none of these tips succeed to your satisfaction--Resort to the Vino.

Case #3

Lost in Love… Lieb… Aimer… Amor…

Whatever language you speak, this is the holiday you look forward to all year. Smitten with your sweetie, you can’t wait to shower them with love. You’ve been planning for months the perfect way to dote on your darling. Rose petals? Check. Champagne & Strawbs? Check. Expensive dinner reservations? Check. Perfect V-Day makeup? Che - - ?? ...Lemme help you with this one.

Less is always more in my book. You’re in love! Glow with it!

For an easy and radiant look try:

The Natural Collection, from Bare Escentuals

This kit has everything you need to achieve a flawless appearance that will make your skin look and feel dazzling. With "makeup so pure you can sleep in it" there's no need to fret about a your carriage turning into a pumpkin at midnight. I can assure you your skin will maintain it’s brilliance until you take it off.

& last, but not least...

Case #4

The Dude.

Simple.

...but you still need to take care of your skin.

Spruce up your grooming regime with some straightforward and easy to use products. You'll like it, I swear (as will your nearest and dearest).

Try the men's Facial Fuel Line from Kiehl's, it's packed with testosterone-I promise!

All you need are these three products. Cleanse. Shave. Moisturize. It's that easy.

There you have it, a crash course to Valentine's skincare and beauty. Now, if you have multiple personalities and you feel you were able to relate to all four cases I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. Just keep this tip in mind: don't overdo it on the products and you'll be juuuuust fine.

Happy Valentine's Day!

*Rach
